RECYCLING MADE EASY

All Nespresso coffee capsules are fully recycled at OUTGREENS recycling facility in Giza. The recycling process of such product must ensure a proper and final separation of the two integral waste items found: coffee and aluminum. The objective is to transform the aluminum into a usable metallic state, and to integrate the coffee as an organic waste stream into the production of organic fertilizers (i.e.compost) that Outgreens produces through Miegos ™, its brand for organic agriculturalproducts.

How are my capsules recycled? What happens with them?

The waste is fed into a shredder. The main objective of this process is to produce small flakes of crushed aluminum (from the capsules), and the residual powdered coffee. The shredded mix is then placed on a screen net This ensures full separation of aluminum shreds. Then it’s washed with water so it should dissolve coffee grains and separate the powdered coffee from the aluminum shreds. The water with coffee is then stored in the barrel for use in the compost manufacturing, leaving clean, coffee-free, aluminum shreds in the screen net. The aluminum is stored and amassed for future use. The aluminum is stored and amassed in metric tons so to be supplied to aluminum industry. (Organic Waste) Coffee provides nutrients for microorganisms which help in the production of Potassium and Phosphorus, both -in turn- help in increasing organic matter in compost Outgreens produces and distributes tailored compost, potting soil, and basic compost production equipment through Miegos , its brand of organic fertilizers.
